Now available on the Northeast Ocean Data Portal are enhanced visualizations of and updated information about offshore energy development in the region.
Individual areas that the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) has leased for offshore wind energy development are now indicated with different colors on the Energy and Infrastructure Planning Areas map. The names of the lease areas are shown in the map legend.
The descriptions of the lease areas have also been updated with information from BOEM regarding project characteristics and status.
For information about an energy planning area, click on the grey icon next to its name in the map legend. This will open an information box like this example for the Vineyard Wind Lease Area.
In the Data Explorer, each lease area can now be viewed individually and overlaid with any other type of data available on the Portal. For example, lease areas can be viewed on the same map with vessel transit data, commercial fishing data, or marine life data.
