Overview
This map shows the number of fish species (species richness) and the total biomass of fish based on trawl surveys.
Data Considerations
The data are from the Northeast Fisheries Science Center’s fall bottom-trawl surveys for vertebrate species richness (2009-2011) and total biomass (2007-2011). The surveys covered a large geographic area from the Bay of Fundy to Cape Hatteras, North Carolina, extending out to the continental shelf-slope break. The Nature Conservancy obtained this dataset from NEFSC and prepared it for Northeast Ocean Data.
Status
We are currently scoping potential enhancements to these products and/or the development of new products that characterize fish distribution and abundance in the Northeast.
